Befrienders KK Video Contest 2014
Official Rules & Regulations

Terms:

1.      The term "Contest" refers to the video competition “Suicide Prevention- One World Connected”.

2.      The "Contestant" is the qualified participant who takes part in the video competition.

Eligibility:

1.      This is a student video contest; only student-produced films are eligible. Students must be associated with a secondary school located in Sabah, Malaysia and enrolled in Form 1-6 or
2.      Enrolled as a student in a college of higher learning or University located in Sabah, Malaysia at date of submission (1st August 2014)
3.      The participant must be a Malaysian or non-Malaysian resident studying in Sabah, Malaysia.
4.      Individual and group contestants are allowed.
5.      The duration of the videos should not exceed 5 minutes (submissions that exceed 5 minutes will not be considered).
6.      Video’s should be in 480p resolution or better.
7.      If your video is in a language other than Bahasa Melayu or English, you will have to include subtitles in English or Bahasa Melayu.
8.      The production dates of the video must be started from 1st March 2014 and all submissions must reach the organizer by 1st August 2014 at 23.59 (11.59pm).
9.      No entry fee is required.

General Requirements:

1.      Video entries must address the theme: “Suicide Prevention - One World Connected”.
2.      Video entries may use any narrative and technical styles, such as documentary, fiction, live action or animation.
3.      Each film must be uploaded as a “unlisted” video to YouTube. A completed Entry form including a link to the video on YouTube must be completed and submitted by the contestant by August 1, 2014 to kkbefrienders@gmail.com Be sure that your film name matches the name on the entry form!
4.      Entry forms  can be obtained at befrienderskk.weebly.com
5.      Each Contestant is only allowed to submit one entry.
6.      Once a video is submitted it is considered final and cannot be further modified or edited.
7.      Each submission will be tied to one Entrant. In the event that a group of contestants (more than one) work together on a submission, the submission will be entered under the name of a Primary Entrant
8.      Each Submission must be participants’ original work and not copied from any other sources. Infringement of copyright, privacy, and or explicit material (obscene, horror or defamatory) will be deemed disqualified by the Organizer.
  1. All video submissions are the creativity of participants and participants may include the narration and/or other technical means to achieve the final product for submission. Once the final product is submitted, no modification and/or editing are allowed.
  2. Participants have to confirm that they have obtained the necessary right, consent and or permission for all the materials, contents and individuals that appears in the video.
  3. The Organizer reserves the right to modify the rules and regulations, cancel and or suspend the contest should there be any discrepancy in the competition and or the video submission.
  4. The Organizer reserves the right to seek damages/penalties and or fees from participants in the Court of Law should there be any civil, criminal, damages and or injuries during the legitimate period of the competition.
  5. The Organizer shall not be held liable for any injuries, damages and or loss of item during the course of filming the videos.
  6. The decisions of the Organizer and Judges are final.
  7. Participants retain the ownership of the video submission. However the Organizers reserves the right to use the video submission for their program, function and or projects (in all promotional media). The Organizer reserves the right to edit and or derive fully or partially the video submission.

Video Guidelines:

  1. The video should be sensitive to racial, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation and gender differences, with all individuals realistically and respectfully depicted.
  2. The video should be positive and educational; communicating that suicide is preventable. Check out sites such as Befrienders Malaysia, Samaritans, Lifeline or Befrienders KK on facebook for information on Suicide and its causes and warning signs.
  3. The video should not include portrayals of suicide deaths or attempts (such as a person jumping off a building or bridge, or holding a gun to their head).
  4. Be Positive and Creative - Communicate a message that is positive and hopeful; creatively and accurately explore the complexity of this topic.
  5. Many people have a tendency to think messages about suicide should be dark and subdued, using colors such as black, grey or red. Instead, remember this video contest is about suicide prevention and consider warm colors that communicate hope and life.
  6. Educate and Encourage Action - The video should communicate a positive and educational message that is hopeful and focused on what others can do to prevent suicide such as recognizing the warning signs and reaching out to a friend
Judging Criteria:

1.         Content (Story Line)    30%
2.         Creativity         30%
3.         Educational Value       30%
4.         Skill     10%

Announcement of Results:
  1. Winning contestants will be informed by email or phone as per contact information supplied at time of entry.
  2. Results of the competition will be announced on the 1st of September.
  3. A Prize giving ceremony will be held on the 13th of September in conjunction with the World Suicide Prevention Day 2014 Commemoration. Details of the schedule and venue will be emailed to the winners within the first week of September.
  4. The winning videos will also be played during the Ceremony.
  5. In the event that a Submission created by a group (and submitted by a Primary Entrant) is declared the winner in accordance with these Official Rules, the Prize will be awarded to the Primary Entrant and it will be the responsibility of the Primary Entrant to distribute the prize.
Prizes:

1.         Grand Prize      RM 3,000
2.         Second Prize    RM 2,000
3.         Third Prize       RM 1,000
4.         Consolation Prize RM 500 x 2

Entry Errors/Internet

  1. The Organizer is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, stolen, invalid, unintelligible or misdirected Submissions. The Organizers not responsible for lost or late Submissions nor for electronic transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of Entrant’s Submissions, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions or limitations of any kind, or inaccurate transmissions of or failure to receive entry information by Organizer on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or any combinations.
  2. If for any reason the program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Organizer which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the Organizer reserves the right at its sole discretion to terminate the contest.
  3. Further, the Organizer reserves sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. The Organizer also reserves the right to select winners from eligible Submissions received during the Contest Period.
  4. Caution: Any attempt by an Entrant to deliberately damage any Web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the contest is a violation laws and should such an attempt be made, the Organizer reserves the right to seek damages from any such Entrant to the fullest extent of the law.
  5. If there is a dispute as to the identity of the Entrant, the prize will be awarded to the authorized account holder of the email address. The "authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person to whom the email address is assigned by an internet provider, online service provider or other organization such as a business or educational institution that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. An Entrant may be required to provide proof that he/she is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the selected Submission.
